Increasing base powder supply is only useful if the following sections can turn it into finished, packed product. Before adding another blender or a faster packing machine, look at how powder moves between the equipment already installed.

This applies whether base powder comes from an on-site spray drying process or an outside supplier. The expansion question is the same: can the downstream equipment handle the planned output over a normal production shift?

Start with the Complete Blending Cycle

A blender’s working batch size tells you how much it can process at once. It does not, on its own, tell you how much finished powder the section can deliver per hour.

The cycle may include ingredient weighing, charging, mixing, discharge and preparation for the next batch. Some tasks may overlap; others may have to wait for shared equipment or an available receiving point.

Record the actual sequence. If the blender finishes mixing but cannot discharge, installing a larger blender may not resolve the delay. If it regularly waits for weighed ingredients, the feeding arrangement deserves a closer look.

Mixing time should not simply be shortened to meet a higher output target. Any change needs to remain suitable for the product and the equipment.

Check What Happens Between Machines

Powder can leave one machine successfully and still be delayed before reaching the next. Review discharge points, transfer equipment and any screening or intermediate holding included in the process.

Look for repeated stops, slow emptying or material accumulating in particular locations. These observations help focus an investigation, but they do not identify the cause by themselves. Equipment condition, powder behaviour, operating settings and downstream availability may all need review.

A conveyor’s stated capacity should also be considered under the intended operating conditions. Check whether it can receive the discharge pattern from the upstream equipment and supply the next section as required.

Where intermediate holding is used, it may help accommodate differences in timing. It cannot indefinitely compensate for a downstream section that processes less material than it receives.

Translate the Output Target into Packaging Demand

Packaging requirements become clearer when tonnes per hour are converted into bags per minute. At the same powder output, a smaller bag requires more filling cycles than a larger one.

That calculation is a starting point. Actual performance also depends on powder characteristics, bag format, weighing, sealing and the handling equipment included after filling. A maximum machine speed should not be treated as sustained production output.

Consider the packaging mix across a shift. Several short runs with bag-size changes may produce a different daily total from one long run, even when the equipment reaches the same speed while operating.

Check whether the proposed expansion means more of the same product and pack size, or a wider range of products and packaging. The equipment implications may be different.

Decide What Needs to Change

Once the operating pattern is clearer, compare possible changes. Depending on the findings, these could involve production scheduling, feeding or discharge arrangements, transfer equipment, packaging equipment or additional blending capacity.

Check the connections as well as the machines. Available space, electrical supply, dust collection where required, controls and maintenance access can affect how a modification is carried out. Existing equipment needs assessment before it is retained in an expanded line.

Discuss Your Existing Line with Meibao

Meibao can discuss equipment matching and modification scope based on the current arrangement and your output target. Useful information includes batch sizes and cycle times where available, current packed output, recurring waiting points, packaging sizes and a simple equipment layout.

If detailed records are not available, start with a description of a normal shift and where interruptions occur. You do not need a complete formulation for the first discussion.

Bring your equipment photographs or expansion plans to Cosmopack Asia 2026, November 10–12, at AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong. Meet Meibao at Booth 9-F26, or email mbl@cnmbl.com with a brief project introduction and your preferred visit date.
